The Fate Of Marvel Legends

Jesse Falcon, one time head of Toy tbiz Marvel Legends, and current consultant to Hasbro dropped by the fwoosh message board yesterday with this note to the fHey Guys it's Jesse

"Long time no chat right! I've been reading a lot of gloom and doom about the 6" Legends line. Well, I wanted to come on the Fwoosh and let you guys know that next weekend your going to see something I think is amazingly cool that will be happening with the 6" Marvel Legends line. And I really wanted to come here and let you know that the 6" line is alive and Hasbro has a very dedicated team that plans on making some very cool 6" product over the next couple of years.

I also wanted to let you know that the 3.75" line look's amazing! If when you get them in hand you agree an I think you will you should thank the entire Hasbro crew because they all worked very hard on this line to make it what it is.

So when you get a second if you come to NYCC swing by the Marvel booth, and say hi!

I think your really going to like what you see!

Best,

Jesse"

Now,I for one was indeed worried about the end of Marvel Legends, as it is the one line I tend to collect. I may pick up a DCUC or a TMNT now and again. But ML is my bread and butter. So this is awesome news. Once pictures leak, you know I'll be a posting...

Trick R Treat : The Film WB Doesn't Want You To See

I've been hearing about the Sam 6inch figure hitting store shelves, and while I don't have one
(I purchased the deluxe edition "Doll" for my best friend for Samhain, and it rocks !), I thought
it would be cool to do a little entry on the film Sam comes from, the long shelved Trick 'R Treat.

This film has been finished since 2006, and was written and directed by Michael Dougherty and produced by X-Men director Brian Cox (who also has an acting cameo). The film was initially planned for a October, 2oo7 release, that however did not happen. It was again purposed for October 2008, and still didn't make it to theaters. No explanations. Even the director doesn't
seem to know why. Or if he does, he's not saying.

The movie is supposed to be an anthology of four stories that intertwine and tell the legends
of Halloween. Sam is reportedly the key to linking all the stories together. I for one am
dying to see this movie, as the design for Sam is amazing. The intricate little elements of
his footy pajamas. For a good look at Sam, here's the trailor for the film, originally released
on the DVD for 300

I wonder why the WB would shell out the money to make a film, only to shelve it for two years.
Speculation is that one of the four stories in the anthology is about the death of children, and
it's making them uneasy. However, if they gave the script a green lite, why complain about that
now ?

The film has played to audiences of few, at a few horror conventions, all garnering rave reviews.

The film stars such top notch actors as Academy award winning, Golden Globe recipient Anna Paquin (X-Men,Tv's True Blood) Leslie Bibb (TV's Popular,Iron Man) and Lauren Lee Smith
(Tv's The L-Word, Art School Confidential). Hopefully, with Paquin's recent Golden Globe win,
they will choose to release this movie, either to the masses via theaters or even direct to DVD.

There is a petition at this web address. Make your voice heard, Tell WB you want Trick R Treat

Pixel Dan : That New Toy Smell !

I stumbled onto this video while looking at Ninja Turtle Toy Reviews, and while I don't agree with ALL his choices (Mutegen Man #1 ? WHA !!!), I still thought it was a well made video, and want to share with you this great show. Plus, it gives That New Toy Smell some publicity. Rock on darklings, and enjoy this video.

P.S. Anyone else think Pixel Dan is hot ? LOL.

The L-Word Spin Off - Details !

The final season of the L Word is debuting tonight, and though I already saw episode 1 before Christmas (it leaked online in December), I felt the urge to dig up some dirt on the upcoming
spin off. And here is what I found. Enjoy my lovelies.

(Direct quote taken from L-Word forum on sho.com)

Showtime President of Entertainment Bob Greenblatt spilled some details of the recently-piloted The L-Word spin-off: It will star The L Word’s Leisha Hayley and will be a “very different, substantially different show” from L-Word, he says.

Hayley’s character Alice Pieszecki goes to jail, where the new show would be set. While L-Word, which will conclude as a series after its yet-to-premiere sixth season, focuses primarily on a community of lesbians, the spin-off would involve a broad spectrum of characters, including some lesbians, Greenblatt says: “It’s a big group of characters and there’s a few lesbians in that group but it isn’t the exact makeup of what the L-Word was.”

When asked if it is a “female Oz,” he says that was “not a bad description,” though it would not be as dark as Oz, the gritty, former HBO series.

Three guest stars appear in the pilot and may or may not go forward on the series should it get picked up: Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Famke Janssen and Laurie Metcalf.

(Cast picture from Season 6 of the L-Word)

Greenblatt says he expects to make a decision about the pilot, which he has not yet seen cut together, in the next couple of months.
Alice will be convicted of some sort of crime related to the Season Six death of the much-hated Jenny (Mia Kirshner). Hailey, who was not on set when that scene was shot, believes Alice is innocent and falsely convicted.
"That's where I stand," says Hailey, who shot the spinoff pilot over the Christmas holidays. "I was a wide-eyed, scared victim. I was walking through this brand new world that obviously I was going to be staying in for a very long time. It's going to be a lot about how I fit in.

"You're just part of the system when you get in there. You get a number and you're in with the rest of them," she says, then jokes, "My wardrobe decisions were down to one outfit."

"L Word" creator Ilene Chaiken thinks the subject of Alice's guilt, should the series get picked up, "could be an open question for a long time."

In prison, Alice encounters Laurie Metcalf, who plays the prison warden, and Melissa Leo, who is the chief correctional officer.

"Melissa Leo is not playing the character that she played many, many years ago on 'The L Word,'" says Chaiken, referring to Winnie, who was caught in a bitter custody battle with her ex. "I believe that we can get away with that given the actor that Melissa Leo is. She's a completely different person."

Another new inmate who appears in the pilot is Famke Janssen.

"Her character Valentina is in for racketeering, drugs and assault -- gang-related," says Chaiken.

If Showtime decides to proceed with the spinoff, it's hoped that the three guest stars will become series regulars. Chaiken also says that given the relationships of the "L Word" characters, it's likely they would be frequent visitors to the California prison.

And although some inmates occupy their time working out, making license plates or cooking in the kitchen, Alice may pursue her favorite hobby: working on The Chart.

"That remains to be seen," says Chaiken. "I think she might make a new chart."

Wave 1 Of The Wolverine And The X-Men Action Figures

So this is the line based off the new animated television show, Wolverine and The
X-men (Debuts in about a week in the states, but ran in South America and Canada for
most of last year). They resemble the artwork on the show, and look like they would
be fun to play with if I was a kid. I'm insanely impressed with Iceman, who once released, will join my X-Men display of Marvel Legends. I do hope some of the female
cast is released. The great thing about this line, is the cartoon it represents has
lots of cameos from lots of characters, from Blink to Polaris, to Sammy the fish boy.
It will be interesting to see if Hasbro utilizes the roster at their finger tips to
their advantage. Hmmm...time will tell

The Dandy Warhols

http://rs437.rapidshare.com/files/182474353/06_Not_If_You_Were_The_Last_Junkie_On_Earth.mp3

This is one of the first rock songs I remember getting into when
I was younger. Taken from there 2nd album, The Dandy
Warhols Come Down, this song makes me moist. Singer
Courtney Taylor-Taylor was one of my first queer crushes
as a 15 year old punker poser. I really didn't get what
this song was about until recently. Scene kids beware!
The Dandy's are the real deal.

Tarot Cards are beautiful

Photobucket

I got this deck for Christmas from a very special person. This deck is the first deck I've used that really work for me. The Faeries are wise, but are full of mischief. The cards however, read well.
I enclosed photos of the deck so anyone interested can check them out. Though these cards can sometimes tell me what I don't want to hear, I think I'll be using this deck for years to come.

History Of Masters Of The Universe Classics, Plus My Opinion Of The Line...

So heres my stance on Mattel's new Masters Of The Universe Classics line of action figures. I think they look awesome ! They are well made, articulated beyond any measure, and they stay true to the original look of the figures. My complaint lies more with the fans than anything else.

When this line was first announced at the New York Comic Con, the idea was, or at least, what was presented to the fans, was a line that would envelope the entire mythology of the brand, including the original Masters Of The Universe, Princess Of Power, The New Adventures Of He-Man, and the latest incarnation of the brand, 2002 Mike Young productions line. To make a point of what was availible, they showed this slide during there presentation.

NYCC Options
(Photo (C) TNI NEWS)

Pictured in this slide were, from left to right, top to bottom, are Green Goddess, Skeletor, King
Greyskull, Savage He-Man, He-Ro, Queen Marlena, Force Captain Adora, He-Man, and Hordak.
Some new characters that were created and not released, other characters that were never made enticed fans to this new line. They were to be done in a style that resembled that old toys of the 1980's, but would be modernized for the new generation of collectors. Fans were treated
to the news that 12 figures would be released in the first year, two of which were not released in the 2002 line, and 2 that have never recieved figures before.

The line would be availible exclusively through Mattel's own store, www.mattycoillector.com at
one per month. King Greyskull was announced to be the exclusive to San Diego Comic Con.
He arrived with much fan fare, and a variant "Statue" version. A "Spirit Of King Greyskull" figure, made in transparent blue was made, in quantities of two. One was raffled off at SDCC,
the other was auctioned off in October.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

At Comic Con, pictures were shown of upcoming figures. Surprisingly, all were from the original Masters Of The Universe line. He-Man, Beast Man, Mer Man and Zodak were all on display, and while impressive, there was nothing of the all encompassing mission statement of before.

Photobucket

Shortly thereafter, Skeletor made his debut in the pages of Toyfare magazine, and Stratos appeared on He-man.org. In the article, it made mention of the fact that Man At Arms
would have two interchangeable heads, one to resemble the original character, another with
a mustache, paying homage to both the 2002 figure and the Filmation cartoon.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

He-Man and Beast-Man were originally scheduled to be released in October and November.
However, due to complications that are still not fully known, they were pushed back until
December 15th, pushing Skeletor to January. The figures came out with some trouble, shipping
problems, and quality control issue abound, the figures themselves were beautiful and sold
very well. Nearly sold out. On January 13th, the figures were pulled from the website, as the remaining few hundred would be sold at the New York Comic Con.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

a fellow by the name of Toyguru began posting tidbits about the line on the he-man.org forumz.
Many question and answer bulletins with Mattel were done. Teela was announced as the first female figure, though as I write this, no photos have been revealed.
'
Faker was then announced as an exclusive to the New York Comic Con. Shortly after the announcement, a delay in Merman was discovered, and Faker was announced as March's release on Matty Collector.

Photobucket

Then, something peculiar happened. A post on Matty Collector's face book about the mythos
of the characters with surprising news at the end of the announcement. It read

" Yes, She-Ra is coming to the line. Look for the first POP figures to start early in 2010!"

The first inclination that yes, the entire mythos was going to be covered. Then on popular toy
blog Poe Ghostals "Ask Mattel" questiona and answer article it was said that both New Adventures of He-Man and Princess Of Power would see characters released in early 2010.

Now, I am of the opinion, that if the line was announced as all incompassing, then thats what the
line should be. However, as a member of some fan forums, it seems a lot of people do not want
this. Some have no desire for any portion of the mythos other than basic Masters Of The Universe. Some feel including these other parts are "Dooming the line" to failure. Every aspect of
this brand, in my opinion, has it's loyal followers. I've really no interest in the New Adventures Of He-Man, but I don't think a figure here and there is going to destroy the line, only enrich it.
I loved the New Adventures Of He-Man line as a kid, but they were not really compatible with the old figures in scale, so it will be nice to see what they can come up with. Mostly though, I am excited for the Princess Of Power characters. Not to say I am not looking forward to many of the Masters Of The Universe characters. My favorites of course, the Horde, and the Sorceress.
I'd love to see Green Goddess, which is rumoured to be this years San Diego Comic Con Exclusive. I just hope the fans of this line don't destroy each other when it comes to the different
brands within the master brand...

Cardigans

As one of my very favorite bands, I felt the need to do a blog on
them.I've enclosed a link to a website with downloads to all their
albums. Each one is a treasure worth checking out, though I
recommend starting with Long Gone Before Daylight or Gran
Turismo. Both are polar opposites of each other. Gran Turismo is
rock electronic. While Long Gone is soothing acoustic led pop.
Diversity is the flavor of the Cardigans. Nina Persons' vocals can
coo over lush strums of a mellow guitar on "Your The Storm", or
rock out with the electo pulse of "My Favorite Game". Enjoy my

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ! 25 Anniversary yo !

Photobucket

Playmates Toys is celebrating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th birthday by re-releasing some of the early action figures from the late 1980's/ early 1990's. The four original turtles along with April O'neil, Casey Jones, Splinter, Bebop, Rocksteady, Shredder (w/Krang !), Foot Soldier, and Slash (OMG !). Thus far, the only figures to hit massive retail are the four turtles. While I myself have all four turles (three in package, had to open Mikey), I have to say I'm quite excited for the villans. Bebop and Rocksteady weren't part of the newer TMNT series of this decade, so it will be really awesome to see them on store pegs again.

Another perk is that Playmates will also be releasing comic accurate versions of the green teens. Formerly, NECA had rights to the turtles in comic form, and released 2 series of figures (one in color, one in black and white) and were quite successful. Their 3rd assortment, consisting of April,Shredder,Foot Soldier, and Foot Elite has been MIA for quite some time, and with no word on those figures fates, Playmates is filling the void. And while no release is set in stone for the comic accurate turtles, 2009 will defenently hold it's share of fantastic turtle action

Cowabunga yo !

Edit :
According to Bigbadtoystore.com, the original TMNT
Party Wagon will be re-released in June !
